The most valuable takeaway from Freshman English was what was entitled, “The Effective Speaker Principles.” One of those stated, “The effective speaker realizes the primary purpose of speech is the communication of ideas and feelings in order to obtain a desired response.” A medium is simply a place to communicate. Whether that place is a real-true face to face conversation, or separated by telephone wires, cell-phone signals, e-mail, web site, print brochure, newsletter, television ad (all different mediums) – the goal is always the same, to communicate for a desired response.

When a catalog is picked up – it is a vehicle for delivering the story of the products within. The story of how it solves the pain, concerns, needs of the reader. The story of how its unique qualities benefit the user and make their life easier, better, more connected. The HERO of the story is the reader – not the product. The Brand is the means of assisting the hero in their quest. Entrench your brand in the story of your target audience.
Engagement is Storytelling
When a client calls an office – what is the walk through process of handling that customer? That is THEIR story of an experience with the brand. What about… the person who goes on a website to purchase a widget? What about the client who purchases a product off the shelf.? Or the customer who listens to a podcast?
Every micro-engagement is a part of the customer journey – that in turn is part of the story created for the consumer, defining the brand.
